The Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA) is consulting on a marine survey licence application (ref. MUL260006) linked to the proposed outfall in Liscannor Bay. Find out how to make a submission.

Lahinch and Ennistymon need modern wastewater treatment

Uisce Éireann is planning a new combined treatment plant for both towns, with new pumping stations, pipelines, storage and a new outfall into Liscannor Bay.

CCLWAG supports that investment. We are a group of local volunteers asking that the scheme is built to the right standard, using the right treatment process, in a location that can be shown to be the right one. We want those decisions based on transparent evidence and real public engagement, with the protection of Liscannor Bay at their heart.

Our three tests

Right Plant

Fit for purpose now and in the future. Is the plant sized for the real needs of both towns?

Right Process

The best engineering and open decisions. What level of treatment, and how will overflows, storms and power failures be handled?

Right Place

A location that can be justified. How were the sites compared, and why was Calluragh chosen?

Why it matters

In May 2026, Lahinch was the only Clare beach not to keep its Blue Flag. The EPA rated Lahinch bathing water “Good” for 2025, down from “Excellent”. A Blue Flag requires an “Excellent” rating. We want it back.
