Frequently asked questions

Are you against a new wastewater plant?

No. We support modern, effective wastewater treatment for Lahinch and Ennistymon. Our concern is that the plant, the treatment process and the location are the right ones, decided openly on evidence.

Is this about keeping the plant away from your homes?

No. Our questions are about water quality, Liscannor Bay, sound engineering and value for public money. We ask that every site option, including those closer to existing infrastructure, is compared openly against the same criteria.

Did the proposed scheme cause the loss of the Blue Flag?

No. The scheme has not been built. Lahinch lost its Blue Flag because its bathing water rating fell below “Excellent”. We want the new scheme designed so that it helps restore that rating.

Who runs CCLWAG?

CCLWAG is a voluntary community group. All members are volunteers. We are independent of Uisce Éireann, Clare County Council and any political party. We were previously known as LECC.

Why does the planning route matter?

Uisce Éireann says its planning application will go directly to An Coimisiún Pleanála, not to Clare County Council. Normally a local decision can be appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála. Here there is no local decision and no appeal: the community has one chance to make submissions, and the decision can only be challenged by judicial review in the High Court on a point of law. That is why we are asking for proper consultation on the Calluragh site before any application is made.

How can I make a submission?

See Take Action. Each consultation has its own deadline and address, and we post them here as they open.

Where does your information come from?

From official documents, published reports and records obtained under environmental information law. Each one is listed, with its source and date, on the Documents & Evidence page. Local observations are labelled as such.
